BMW-owned Mini as announced that the BMW plant near Chennai will start producing the Mini Countryman here, for the first time outside of Europe. This move is taken by the company, a year after the brand made its entry into the Indian market. Another great news, the Countryman is now available in two diesel variants – MINI Cooper D Countryman and MINI Cooper D Countryman High.
BMW India says, that the demand for their premium small car, MINI, has been rising consistently. Thus, in order to support this rise in demand, they have now started to produce the MINI Countryman locally.
The locally produced Mini Countryman will be offered in two diesel variants – Mini Cooper D Countryman and Mini Cooper D Countryman High – which are currently not on-sale in India. A new petrol version, Mini One Countryman, will also be produced locally and becomes the lowest priced Mini car in India.
Other models like the petrol Mini Cooper Countryman, Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S and Mini Cooper Convertible will continue to be imported here through the CBU route.
Globally, Mini brand is in operation to over 100 nations, and the Indian market is the 100th one for the company. Since January-2012, Mini has so far sold 302 cars between the month of March-December 2012. The company has opened five exclusive dealership outlets across Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bangalore, with plans of expansion in the near future.
Prices of the locally produced variants of the Mini Countryman (ex-showroom price all-over India) –
- Mini One Countryman (Petrol) – Rs. 23.5 lakh
- Mini Cooper D Countryman – Rs. 25.6 lakh
- Mini Cooper D Countryman high – Rs. 28.9 lakh
