Audi India today launched the convertible version of A3 sedan called ‘A3 Cabriolet’ priced at Rs 44.75 lakh, ex-Showroom, New Delhi. First unveiled at the Auto Expo earlier this year, the offering is a sporty iteration of the brand’s cheapest and most compact offering, the A3 sedan. For now, there are no competitors to the A3 Cabriolet.
While the regular A3 is locally assembled, the Cabriolet arrives as a Complete Built Unit (CBU) in the country. The A3 Cabriolet is an open top variant with its roof made of soft fabric sitting on a lightweight kinematic skeleton made of magnesium steel. The top can open or close electro-hydraulically at the press of a button, in less than 18 seconds, at speeds of up to 50kmph.
In terms of external appearance, apart from the open top, the Cabriolet gets the same bi-xenon headlamps, LED tail lights, front bumper and characteristic body lines of the sedan. However, the two doors and new design for the alloys differentiate the car from the A3 sedan. The A3 cabriolet moves on 17″ 5 spoke cast aluminium alloy wheels.
The same story continues on the inside too, as the Cabroilet comes with the same theme and layout. On the inside, the four-seater’s sporty yet elegant look is maintained with the high quality material and neat design. Circular turbine-like AC vents, a retractable MMI screen, dual-zone climate control, electrically adjustable front seats and leather upholstery are among the other features of the car.
The company is offering the A3 Cabriolet with a single engine option, the 1.8-liter TFSI turbo petrol mill, which already does its duty under the hood of sedan version. The engine churns out max power of 177 bhp and a peak torque of 280 Nm. The engine comes mated to a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission. The car does 0-100 kmph in 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 242 kmph.
