Kia Motors is all-set to make their India debut next year. The Korean automaker has quite a few impressive offerings lined up for the Indian market. As per a report, Kia Motors are evaluating on two new models, which may be launched in a couple of years.
These two products are the Grand Carnival MPV (also known as Sedona in some markets) and the Stonic compact SUV. Both were showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 held in Greater Noida not long ago. It is said that both the Grand Carnival and the Stonic received the highest response from the Kia stable throughout the event.
The Kia Grand Carnival MPV is a much bigger and more premium product, there is no direct rival currently on-sale in India.
Coming to these models, the Grand Carnival is not a Toyota Innova/Tata Hexa rival. The Kia Carnival is a much bigger and more premium product. There is no direct rival currently on-sale in India, it competes with the likes of Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica which segment is non-existent in India. It will employ a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, capable of delivering 199 BHP of power and 441 Nm of torque. This motor will come paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Next-in-line will be the Stonic compact SUV, which will come powered by a 998cc turbocharged petrol engine, capable of giving 118 BHP of power and 172 Nm of torque. Unlike the Grand Carnival, the Stonic will have its engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Stonic will have its rivals in the form of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport and the Tata Nexon.
The Jeep small SUV will go directly against the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and the likes.
Both these models are likely to arrive sometime in 2020. We can expect both of them to be priced aggressively in order to give them an edge over the competition. Kia does have a promising product pipeline for the Indian market and it remains to be seen whether the automaker can cash in on the initial hype surrounding it.
