Recently launched Yamaha FZ-25 with semi-fairing is said to be under works, according to PowerDrift report. Mr. Roy Kurien, vice-president, sales and marketing, Yamaha India said “That is like logical, right? Just wait for sometime. We will let you know that” when asked about the Fazer 250 in an interview.
Extracting a semi-faired sibling from the new FZ-25 will not be a difficult task for Yamaha as it has already tried it in the 150cc premium bike space offering three bikes – the FZ, the FZ-S and the Fazer. All the three bikes are based on the same platform and that means Yamaha got three bikes for the cost of one. So the Japanese bike maker might consider the same approach in the 250cc space.
Although most of the components would be the same, the Fazer 250 would spawn a semi-fairing (tank extension), larger headlamp console (can expect a twin-headlamp setup) and a bigger windscreen to take care of those nasty wind blasts and be more aerodynamic. Thus, the Fazer 250 will slightly be heavier compared to its naked sibling that weighs 148 kgs.
The beefed-up version would carry the heart of the Yamaha FZ-25 – a 249 cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. The SOHC engine is capable of producing 20.9 PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 20 Nm of peak torque at 6,000 rpm. Yamaha could alter the engine mapping of the Fazer 250 to suit it for the touring application.
Expected it to be priced Rs 10,000 premium compared to the naked sibling, and launch is scheduled for sometime this-year itself.
