German luxury car manufacturer, BMW India has launched its second generation BMW X6 in the country priced at Rs 1.15 crore (ex-showroom India).
In India, the new X6 is only available in one variant the xDrive40d and gets the M Sport package as standard. For speed enthusiasts, the manufacturer will bring in the 4.4-litre V8 BMW X6M as well, but sometime later this year. The second-generation X6 gets re-styled exterior and interior and has grown larger than its predecessor, surprisingly; the overall wheelbase has now shrunk by 2mm to 1,933mm.
Design-wise, the 2015 X6 is sharper and mature, more inline with current Bimmers. The LED Multi-beam headlights are all-new units and integrate neatly with the new, more prominent grille. The rear fascia receives re-designed boot lid, bumper and revised LED taillights. Step Inside, you’ll notice the completely revamped dashboard with new steering wheel, instrument console, centre console and a stand-out iDrive display.
On-board features include a leather-wrapped M steering wheel, individual headliner, M badged door sills, paddle shifters, cruise control, launch control, a Harman Kardon Surround Sound system, iDrive Touch, sunroof etc, are standard on the X6. A total of 5 shades are on offer – Alpine White, Carbon Black, Flamenco Red, Mineral White and Metallic Alpine White. And comes with a new pattern of alloy-wheels with options of 17″, 18″ and 20″ sizes.
The India-spec variant gets a 3.0-litre inline 6-cylinder TwinPower Turbo diesel engine producing 313 bhp at 4,400 rpm and 630 Nm of torque between 1,500-2,500 rpm, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission powering all-four-wheels. It sprints 0-100 kmph in 5.8 seconds and has a top-speed of 240 kmph. The vehicle returns a fuel efficiency of 15.87 kmpl under European Driving Cycle.
As far as safety is concerned, the new X6 is equipped with six airbags, stability control, traction control and hill descent control.
This flagship BMW SUV joins the X range of SUVs – X1, X3 and X5 in India. The previous-generation X6 was discontinued last-year to make way for the new model, and did not have any direct rivals in the Indian market, but the second-generation X6 will get head-to-head competitor the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé, which is expected to hit Indian roads soon.
The BMW X6 is imported into India as a CBU from BMW’s Spartanburg plant in the US.
