All-new 4th Generation Honda City
Honda India today unveiled the much-awaited all-new 4th Generation Honda City at a World Premiere event in New Delhi. This is the undoubtedly the most awaited sedans in India this-year. The all-new 4th generation car is bigger, sleeker and sharper looking than its predecessor but it’s more of an evolution than a revolution. The new car follows the Honda’s latest H-Design first seen in the recently unveiled 2015 Honda Fit/Jazz and also will be seen in the upcoming Honda Vezel SUV which is scheduled to unveil at the 2014 Auto Expo in India.
Frankly speaking, at first glimpse the car looks more like a facelift than an all-new generation. However, there are significant changes on the new model and biggest change is the addition of the 1.5 litre i-DTEC Earth Dreams diesel engine from the Amaze. The interiors of 4th generation City sports advanced textures and comfort features and it comes in with an superior ‘Man Maximum, Machine Minimum’ package with added shoulder, knee and leg space which have been increased by 40mm, 70mm and 60mm respectively as compared to the current City.
Japanese car manufacturer claims the new Honda City is the widest car in its class which is quite believable. The front is low and sleek with twin-barrel headlights and a sharper bumper. The sides of the car have strong character lines running through the doors whilst the rear tail-lamps which extend into the boot lid of the car, and the rear gets a completely new tail light design and a chrome strip with the H badge at the centre. A sunroof has been added for the first time in a Honda City, thus ensuring that the 4th Generation City will indeed be a status symbol for buyers.
On the inside, the interior space is more than the previous generation as the wheelbase has been increased by 50mm, despite the same length as that of the same City. The interior is typical Honda with looks and feels of good quality, and gets a dual-tone black and beige colour scheme. The additional feature integrated on the new City include start-stop system, AUX input, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, 5-inch LCD display screen with reverse parking camera, 8-speaker sound system, steering mounted audio controls, rear air-con vents have been supported with four charging points.
The all-new 4th generation City will be powered by both petrol and diesel engines. Joining the familiar 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol unit, is the 1.5 litre i-DTEC that is found on the Amaze with Earth Dreams Technology. Honda claims that these engines have been reworked for more refinement and will make the City the most fuel efficient car in its class. Power and torque figures for these engines have not yet been released. The Honda Design Team has worked excessively with these two engines which are seen in a lightweight all aluminum crankshaft and piston.
The bookings for the new Honda City has already commenced across the nationwide Honda car dealers at the payment of Rs. 50,000 and is likely to go on-sale in January 2014. The company has not officially announced the prices of the new City, but is likely to cost between Rs. 8.28 lakh for the base petrol model to Rs. 11.56 lakh for the top-end diesel.
What we say? We were expecting the 4th Generation Honda City to get projector headlamps as its now getting standard across the C-segment. Apart from this, Honda has not left any effort to make new Honda City the best sedan in its segment.
