When talking about power and speed all that comes to mind is the engine running on the conventional fuel, well a lot of it is going to change when automakers known for high performance machines decide to Go Green. To take on the Green initiative, Austrian automaker KTM unveiled its E-Speed electric concept scooter at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show. The bike gives the vibe of a hyped-up sports scooter in KISKA-KTM design. Redefining urban mobility, the bike is light and sexy.
The E-Speed electric scooter houses a liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet synchronous motor which generates a 36Nm of torque and a permanent power of 11kW. The power is transmitted to the rear wheel via a belt drive. The power is stored in lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 4.36kWh that gets fully charged in about 2 hours on a domestic 220V socket. The bike reaches a top speed of 85km/h and can ride distances up to 64km before running out of batteries. To make sure that the weight of the bike is light KTM has used best in class trellis light metal frame and WP suspension system. With all this the scooter weighs about 140kg.
Even though the E-Speed is electric scooter, still it shows off all the typical off-road characteristics that KTM is known and the iconic Orange colour. The bike also features ABS, regenerative braking system and 17-inch alloy wheels. Being electric powered the scooter produces zero emission and its very silent.
Here`s what Stefan Pierer, CEO, KTM had to say about the E-Speed concept electric scooter, “We at KTM are completely convinced of electric mobility as a perfect complement to conventional powertrains. In the long term, the electric drive will come out on top for short distances – particularly in areas which are highly sensitive from an environmental perspective, like open nature and densely populated metropolitan areas! Vehicles like the ‘E-SPEED’ and Freeride E Electric offroad bike can help powered two-wheelers win back more acceptance in society. Not just because of their environmental credits, but because they are easy to use, quick, and simply great fun.”
