With appearances made in Middle East and some international markets already, the 6th-gen Hyundai Elantra is expected to make its India debut soon.
But before Hyundai Motor India itself can get the ball rolling, eager dealerships in the country have already commenced the booking for a deposit of Rs 25,000. The 2017 Elantra is expected to launch in the first week of September, once launched it will compete with the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze and Renault Fluence.
Compared to the outgoing model, the exterior is 20 mm longer, 25 mm wider and 5 mm taller. It now has a large hexagonal front grille, while the higher-spec models get LED daytime running lamps. At the rear, the car has coupe-like styling, restyled boot and the new set of taillights looked to have decreased in width as well.
The interior gets a new 3-spoke steering wheel with different buttons, an 8-inch display for the infotainment system, as well as an 8-speaker JBL sound system and alloy pedals. Other optional features include memory function for the seat adjustment, smart trunk (the trunk automatically opens when it detects the smart key near a sensor for more than 3 seconds) and a Harman sound system.
Engine options on offer with the 2017 Elantra will include a 147 hp 2.0-litre 4-cylinder MPi petrol motor and 134 hp 1.6-litre 4-cylinder CRDi VGT diesel. Both these engines will be offered with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options.
