The second-generation Volvo XC90 was first revealed to the world back in August-2014 and represented the Swedish carmaker’s first major step in revamping its product lineup.
The new XC90 marks the beginning of a new chapter in Volvo’s history.
The order books for the 2015 Volvo XC90 are now open in India, while deliveries will only commence in September-2015. In India, the second generation XC90 SUV is launched in two variants, Momentum Luxury and Inscription Luxury. The Momentum trim is priced at Rs. 64.9 lakh while the top-end Inscription attracts Rs. 77.9 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Mumbai, pre-Octroi.
The 2015 XC90 is visually striking and marks the beginning of a new chapter in Volvo’s history. It features Volvo’s new design language with T-shaped “Thor’s Hammer” DRL lights and the large vertical slat chrome grille housing the proud Volvo logo introduces an entirely new, distinctive and confident face for Volvo’s forthcoming generation of cars.
Most striking feature is a tablet-like touch screen control console.
Feature-wise, the Momentum variant gets keyless entry, panoramic sun roof, electrically operated tail gate, adjustable driver seat and foldable rear seats. Safety features include rain sensing wipers, LED headlamps, Hill Descent Control and Park Assist. The Inscription trim sports all the features of the Momentum variant with the addition of 19 speaker Bowers & Wilkins music system, air suspension, heads-up display and heated and ventilated front seats.
The new XC90’s interior is the most luxurious to have been designed for a Volvo. It features iPad like touchscreen control panel, cloud based navigation system and Apple Car Play with voice command. Done up in Nappa leather, interiors are spacious and comfortable while with foldable third row seats, boot space is also at a premium. The top-end Inscription rides on 20” inch diamond cut alloy wheels, 19” inchers on the lower Momentum variant.
Bookings officially commenced in India from today, delivery only by September-2015.
First car to be based on the company’s latest modular SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture) platform, the new XC90 comes powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel mill that produces a healthy 225 hp at 4,250 rpm and 470 Nm of max torque in between 1750-2500 rpm. The engine feeds power to an 8-speed automatic transmission, power is sent to all four wheels via an AWD system.
Compared to its rivals the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Mercedes GL-Class, the new XC90 is projected as the most economical, safest and luxurious SUV in its segment.
