In November-2013, Suzuki Motor Corp at the Tokyo Motor Show unveiled the mini-crossover SUV which is the combination of two cars; small hatchback and an SUV christened ‘Suzuki Hustler’. A Hustler in English means someone who knows how to get money from others selling drugs and rolling dice. On December 24th, Suzuki launched the mini crossover in the Japanese car market and the deliveries for this mini SUV, which qualifies for ‘kei’ car benefits, commence on January 8, 2014.

The Hustler shares a common platform with Suzuki’s mainstay WagonR car but has more interior space and is equipped with safety systems to control its brakes on hills and snowy roads. Available with both 4wd and 2wd, the 660cc, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces a max power of 52 PS@6,000 rpm and peak torque of 63 Nm @4,000 rpm, while an impressive fuel efficiency rating of between 23.4 kmpl to 28 kmpl depending on the driver’s style. For the entry level variants, the engine comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The higher variants get a CVT transmission.

Also Suzuki Hustler is available with a turbocharged engine option, displacing the same 660cc engine  in a three-cylinder arrangement. The turbo version outputs 64 PS and 95 Nm of torque, and is paired to a CVT. Like the regular Hustler, the turbo variant is also available with 2WD and 4WD. The regular Hustler is priced ranging from 1.048 million Yen (INR 6.18 lakhs) to 1.334 million Yen (INR 7.89 lakhs), while the turbocharged variant is priced ranging from 1.295 million Yen (INR 7.66 lakhs) to 1.576 million Yen (INR 9.32 lakhs). The new Suzuki Hustler is customizable offers 11 exterior colors, contrasting roof colors and the option of having the body color as the interior color as well.

Personally, we think this is a pretty fun little car and will have a huge appeal amongst young buyers.
