Hyundai Eon

The country’s second largest automaker Hyundai has been working on its upcoming small car codenamed HA / H800 will be called ‘Eon’. Now this baby hatch will compete head-on with the Maruti Alto and will be launched in October this year, now according to AutoCarIndia editor Hormazd Sorabjee, Hyundai plans to name the 800cc small car the Hyundai Eon.

The Korean automaker plans to sell 15,000 units of the Eon every month and will only launch it in India initially. Eon means ‘indefinitely long period of time’ and will rival the Maruti Suzuki Alto. The price of the Hyundai Eon is expected to be below Rs. 3 lakhs and the car is expected to replace the 13-year old Santro, is slated for a long innings in India too.

This all-new car will be powered by a three-cylinder 800cc engine, expected to develop around 50bhp and as our illustrations show, the new Hyundai scores high in the styling department. It certainly has Hyundai written all over it.

The small hatchback’s fascia has styling cues from the new Verna and the car does look a generation or two ahead of the Santro and much more attractive than the Maruti Alto. The Eon doesn’t share the Santro’s tall boy proportions but Interior space is expected to be better than the Alto. Hyundai also claims that the new small car would excel both performance wise and also have good fuel economy.
