Going back to our traditional cars, here is one of the cars which would never die nor would be crushed into a thin metal or sheet like a scrap. Hindustan Motors has decided to modify the traditional Ambassador with the specifications and design meeting the current market. Hindustan Motors Ambassador being the best car of its times was India’s first domestic automobile manufacturing company.

According to fresh reports in Business Standard, Hindustan Motors Ltd (HM) is planning to launch a new-age hatch-back version of the iconic Ambassador car in order to make out most benefit from the lower excise duty. Interestingly, the Ambassador hatchback will be underpinned by the sedan’s platform and would be launched in late-2013/early-2014.

To an extent, sources from the industry also says, Ambassador compact sedan will boast good amount of comfort at back seat, fresh aura on dashboard, and a complete new lot of features, unlikely to any of the package which is now being available in showrooms of HM. The hatch will be manufactured in HM’s Uttarpara factory in West Bengal and will be sold under the Ambassador moniker itself.

However, nothing much is known about the upcoming Amby hatch but looking at the statement in an interview with Business Standard, initially, the diesel version of hatch will be available in Bharath stage III compliant and the new Bharath stage IV compliant diesel version which would be available from March-2014. The car would be priced under Rs 4 lakh, as per the official statement by the company.

Also, on the pipeline is a compact sedan variant of the Ambassador sedan that will be launched before the end of 2014. Furthermore, company added all-new model of Ambassador sedan is in the works and will be launched by the end of March-2015. Also, the hatchback version of this model will be derived which we believe might have some blessings from the Mini Cooper as the company stated by the end of the next financial year, a hatchback Ambassador aimed at the youngsters will be a game-changer.

The upcoming Ambassador line-up has nothing to do with the earlier plan. It’s an entirely new project, spearheaded by the company’s new MD Uttam Bose, who had joined in April last year.
