Firstlook – 2013 Land Rover Freelander 2 unveiled

Just last-week Tata Motor’s British subsidiary Land Rover revealed the firstever official images of 2013 Range Rover, now a week later company has revealed the firstever official images of 2013 Land Rover Freelander. The 2013 Freelander 2 will make its global premiere at the 2012 Moscow International Motor Show on Wednesday 29 August, 2012, before it goes on sale later this-year.

Compared to the outgoing model, the 2013 Freelander 2 gets more premium redesign on the exterior with the use LED lights with the daytime running lamps receiving a signature graphic and also the tail lamps are now LED. 17-inch wheels are now standard on the XS variant and there are also three new exterior colour options to choose from. There is also the addition of a new Dynamic trim in some global markets. This variant comes with 19-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, a bodykit and gloss black trim for exterior detailing.

On the inside, the 2013 Freelander 2 gets more comfort, fresh interior with a new center console, Range Rover Evoque equipment, a new 7-inch color touchscreen, 7-day timed climate system, optional satellite navigation and much more. The updated Freelander 2 also receives a Passive Start system which allows the engine to start-up as long as the key is somewhere inside the car. The company has also decked the Freelander 2 with a rear view camera and ‘Hitch Assist’.

Under the hood engine options remain unchanged, two diesels – the 2.2-litre 150PS TD4 and 190PS SD4 with four-wheel drive. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard on the two-wheel drive 150PS eD4 engine. Land Rover claims that this engine will deliver a fuel efficiency of approximately 16kmpl. All Freelander 2 models now come with Intelligent Power System Management which incorporates regenerative charging.

Tata Motor’s British subsidiary Jaguar luxury and sports car maker has announced the launch of first ever made in India 2013 Jaguar XF. The Jaguars XF will be built alongside Land Rover Freelander 2 vehicles at the Chikli plant off Pune, a former Mercedes Benz-Tata facility that has been converted for use by Jaguar-Land Rover. The initial Pune-built Jaguar XF models will feature the company’s acclaimed 2.2-litre diesel engine, which enables the company to offer the Jaguar XF at more competitive pricing. The locally manufactured Jaguar XF, will now be available at an entry price of Rs 44.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This new model will be available in ‘Luxury’ trim only. Although the 2.2-litre Jaguar XF now becomes the entry level variant from the XF line-up but the company has not skipped on equipment and has offered rear view camera, navigation system, touch screen, TV Tuner, paddle shifts on steering wheel (no other rival offers this feature), electric sunroof, full sized spare wheel, electric seats and electric rear screen blind as standard. The changes on the entry level variant from the XF line-up are minimal with a single exhaust tailpipe while the V6 and V8 variants get two. Also the wheels on the XF 2.2 are slightly smaller too – at 17-inch diameter – as compared to the 18-inch wheels on its more expensive siblings. The 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine plonked on XF sedan, is the same engine that is also found on the likes of the Freelander2 SUV and the Evoque Crossover. The Jaguar XF 2.2 i4 Td offers 190PS of power with a torque measure of 450Nm. The diesel mill is mated to a new ZF 8-speed transmission that has resulted in improved fuel economy and reduction in emissions. 0 - 100 kph takes 9 odd seconds while the top speed is 225 kph. Apart from the XF 2.2 diesel luxury sedan, the XF sedan sold in India also gets a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel motor and a 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged high performance engine.
