According to a report by AutoCarIndia magazine, Tata Motors could rebadge and sell models from China’s Chery Automobile Co. in India.
AutoCarIndia reveals that Tata Motors and China’s Chery Automobile Co. will jointly develop a Creta-rival.
Rumours suggest that first product for Indian market will be a reworked version of the Chery Tiggo 5x to rival Hyundai Creta which in the books of Tata Motors is currently dubbed as the Blackbird and is likely to be launched around 2021.
The reports further says that the company has temporarily halted the development of the Blackbird (also known by its code ‘H4’), and its yet to get-off the drawing board. Instead now the home-grown car maker is believed to be evaluating Chery’s midsize SUV.
Tata’s Creta-rival aka Blackbird could mark Chery’s entry into India launch expected in 2021.
Tata Motors and Chery will build a differently designed body of their respective cars, however, both will share a same set of underpinnings like chassis, suspension and power trains to keep the development costs in check.
