The Kia Ceed-based crossover has been spotted undergoing testing for the first time. Kia is scheduled to be launching it in Europe next year. If the Korean automaker decides to bring the vehicle here, it looks likely for a launch sometime in 2021.
These images show the crossover in a camouflaged form. The Ceed-based crossover will have a rugged appearance with some plastic cladding and a raised stance to make it look more attractive. Kia are also reportedly planning on launching the Ceed hatchback.
Just like the Ceed, the crossover will also have its length above the four-metre mark, thus not being available for tax benefits. The Ceed and its crossover version will be underpinned by the K2 platform, seen on the Verna. Both cars would be coming here via the CKD route, though good demand could lead to them being localised here.
Kia have not yet spoken about bringing them to India, but we can expect the automaker to take a decision regarding it more sooner than later. On dimensions, the Ceed-based crossover is expected to be taller and wider than its main rival, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. When it comes to India, it will be positioned below the Trazor mid-size SUV, scheduled to be launched in mid-2019, in Kia’s line-up.
