Gearing-up for the big launch in the first quarter of 2014, Honda India has announced the India price of its new 2014 City sedan. This is the 4th Generation City which also marked the advent of a diesel engine in this fabulous sedan – will start from Rs 7.42 lakh for the base manual gearbox variant in the Indian market. For an petrol automatic transmission variant, you have to fork out an extra Rs. 2.07 lakh, for a grand total of Rs. 9.49 lakh.
While that of base diesel starts from Rs 8.62 lakh, and the diesel range tops at Rs. 11.10 lakh, no automatic transmission option available on diesel variants. The company is so serious about the diesel model that it will commence the deliveries of diesel Honda City immediately, while the petrol City will only be delivered starting from mid-February. The Japanese automaker has started bookings more than a month back, and now the automaker has already received 9000 pre-launch bookings for the City.
The Honda City is offered in a total of 12 variants (5 each of petrol manual and diesel along with 2 automatic petrol variants which are SX and VX) which include E, S, SV, V and VX trims. All variants come with a driver side airbag, electrically adjustable rear view mirrors, ABS and EBD as standard. The S variants get an integrated audio system with a 3.5-inch screen, steering-mounted controls, driver seat height adjuster, keyless entry, hands free telephone, rear defogger, body coloured rear view mirrors and door handles.
The mid SV variant gets auto AC with touch screen control, rear AC vents, cruise control, passenger airbag and steering mounted telephone controls. This variant seems like the best bet although the V adds 15-inch alloy wheels, 5-inch screen with rear parking camera, front fog lamps and electrically folding rearview mirrors with turn indicators. The top-end VX variants gets leather seats, sunroof, keyless boot opening, button start/stop and smart key system.
