India Yamaha Motor is taking an aggressive approach and plans to launch new models to tap the growing two wheeler industry.
Yamaha is considering the launch of an electric bike in the Indian two-wheeler market. The company is also developing a scooter for the Indian market, which would be launched in the later half of this year. However the big news is, the launch of two new bikes in 2011. The company also plans to refresh some variants of existing models. Could this be the Yamaha R15 refresh? Are the new models, the R125/R25 and the Fazer 250? Only time will tell, but going by the spy shots, a performance machine is just around the corner from Yamaha.
“For rising fuel prices, electric bike is a good option. Currently we are selling electric bikes in Japan and Europe. There is a possibility for the Indian market for introducing these products,” Yamaha India Director (Sales and Marketing) Jun Nakata said. “We are preparing to enter the scooter market. The product is under development in Japan and it will be an India-specific product,” he added.
The company, which has two facilities in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, have a combined installed production capacity of 6 lakh units a year that can be scaled up to 10 lakh units every year.
