After all the waiting, leaked shots, teasers and whatever else under the sun – Jaguar has finally taken the covers off of the new 2013 Jaguar F-TYPE two seater soft-top convertible sports car at the Paris Motor Show. At this private event – Ratan Tata, Ravi Kant, L-R Dr Ralf Speth, Ian Callum, , Lana Del Rey, Adrian Hallmark were present.
“Jaguar is a founding member of the sports car segment with a rich sporting bloodline stretching over 75 years, and in the F-TYPE we’ve reignited that flame,” said Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar. “The F-TYPE isn’t designed to be like anyone else’s sports car. It’s a Jaguar sports car – ultra-precise, powerful, sensual and, most of all, it feels alive.”
The 2013 Jaguar F-TYPE is available in three models including the 340-hp F-TYPE, the 380-hp F-TYPE S and the 495-hp F-TYPE V8 S. The lightweight sports car tips the scale starting at 1597kg. The first two models are powered by a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 while the F-TYPE V8 S carries a 5.0-liter supercharged V8. All are equipped with the new Intelligent Stop/Start system to enhance fuel economy under certain driving conditions. All engines drive through an 8-speed ‘Quickshift’ automatic transmission, with a center console-mounted SportShift gear selector and steering wheel-mounted paddles.
0 to 100 kph comes in 5.1 seconds for the F-TYPE, 4.8 for the S model and 4.2 for the V8 S. The V8 S has a top track speed of 186 mph. Available Configurable Dynamics program allows the driver to tailor a number of the dynamic features to personal taste and includes displays for lap timer and G-meter functions
The F-Type possesses a rectangular grille, LED running lights and double front intakes and side vents. And for those that are concerned about the speed of the top, Jaguar says that the convertible top folds in 12 seconds at speeds up to 50 kph. Once the Jaguar F-Type goes on sale early next year, it will compete with other two seater sports cars which will include BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster and Mercedes Benz SLK.
