Skoda Youngster, Is this Skoda’s small car for India?
This test mule was spotted somewhere in the Europe. Like its parent company Volkswagen, Skoda also intends to launch a small car below Fabia in India. The Youngster will share platform with VW Lupo and Seat Arena though the exterior will look completely different from each other. Skoda has not commented but sources say that a sub-Fabia city hatchback to be called Youngster is scheduled for a Frankfurt Motor Show debut this year.
No details on the styling of the car have been revealed but expect the Youngster to carry design inspirations from the Vision D concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Reports say it will be manufactured at Volkswagen’s Chakan facility in Pune.
It is speculated that Skoda will offer a 1.3 litre 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 65PS of power or a 1.2 litre, 4-cylinder, 75PS diesel power-plant on the Youngster. Expected prices will be in the region of Rs 4-5 lakh in an effort to take on the crowded Indian hatch market.
