Rendered – Tata Indica XL

Tata-Indica-XL-Render

Our roving eye in the sky EarthFusion has come up with a rendering of the recently scooped Tata Indica XLthat Tata Motors has been testing in and around Pune. While Tata is testing the car with a flattish rear to confuse onlookers, the end product will actually feature a rounded rear end, much like the current version of the Tata Indica. From what we can make out from the doors of the test mule, the Tata Indica XL might be sharing the Indigo XL’s doors, to keep costs low. The render that you’re seeing on screen will be very close to the final product and over the next few months, you’ll see that for yourselves.

For now, we’ll give you a brief summary of what the Indica XL is all about. The Tata Indica XL is a stretched wheelbase version of the Tata Indica. Targeted squarely at the taxi market, the Indica XL will be what the Indigo XL has been, a car with immense space and comfort for its rear seat occupants. The Tata Indica XL is expected to feature a common rail turbo diesel engine, which going by Tata’s recent product launches, might be an extremely frugal engine. The Indica XL will be a 5 seater and will feature AC vents for its rear passengers, just like the Tata Indigo XL.

Currently, the Tata Indica measures 3675 mm in length. So, Tata does have a good 325mm more to play around with and still manage to meet the government’s requirements of small cars to measure under 4 meters in lengths to qualify for reduction in excise duties. If Tata chooses to enlarge the wheelbase by 200mm, just like it did with the Indigo XL, the Tata Indica XL would be a very spacious car indeed. With the Tata Indica XL, Tata Motors might very well create an all new segment in the Indian car market.
