Piaggio Vespa GTS 300 – most powerful production Vespa unveiled at 2015 IBW

Hot Scooter fans, say hello to the Piaggio Vespa GTS 300, a sexy Italian chick that you might get to date in India soon. The Vespa GTS 300 is the most powerful scooter from the Vespa family globally on-sale today, and its a perfect blend of vintage style & modern technologies.

The range topping variant in Vespa, the GTS 300 was showcased at 2015 India Bike Week (IBW) at Vagator, Goa. The GTS 150 and an accessorized Vespa S were also on display at Piaggio’s 2015 IBW stall. The GTS series is a step above the current Vespa VX or Vespa S models on-sale in India. They are larger in size compared to the regular ones, with a robust yet retro design to them.

In keeping with tradition, the GTS 300 features round chrome-rimmed headlamp and classic body lines which resemble the old-school European scooters from 1950s. For starters, the new model possesses the most powerful engine never before been experienced by scooter owners in India. With the GTS 300, Piaggio India wants to change that perception of the Indian two-wheeler market.

Under the skin, the GTS 300 is powered by a 278 cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, fuel-injected and liquid-cooled engine producing 21.1 Bhp of power at 7500 RPM and 22.3 Nm of torque at 5250 RPM. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheel via a CVT transmission. For a scooter that does a 128 Kph top speed, safety is important. ABS and traction control are standard, along with disc brakes on both wheels.

This performance-oriented scooter will deliver a fuel efficiency of 28 Kmpl. The GTS 300 rides on five-spoke 12” inch alloy wheels, along with 220mm disc brakes on both wheels. Tubeless tyres are standard too. Piaggio India may import the GTS 300 as a Completely-Built-Unit (CBU), which means that a price of around Rs. 3-4 lakhs in Indian market.

At the 2015 India Bike Week (IBW), Piaggio India displayed another version of the Vespa scooter in the form of the GTS Super 150. It was painted in sporty red, with black and silver and its body shell too is noticeably larger than the other 125cc Vespa variants currently on-sale in India. This model features front and rear disc brakes along with on five-spoke alloy wheels.

The GTS Super 150 is a powered by 154.8cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke petrol motor with fuel-injection which produces 11.7 BHP of power and 11.76 Nm of torque matched to a CVT automatic transmission. The GTS Super 150 is also being planned for India, and could hit showrooms by the end of 2015 or early-2016, priced at Rs. 1 lakh.
