We think Mahindra use Ooty hill station to test their cars in cold weather & test the handling characteristics of its vehicles. As we spotted Mahindra Xylo mini & Mahindra W201 (World SUV) earlier last week at OoTY, Now AutoCarainIndia reader Nitesh Jain spotted the double cab version of the caught testing at same place.

After launching the single-cab version of the Genio earlier this year. Now company also plans to launch a double cab version of the same. The double cab version gets an added second row seat and rollover bars fitted at the back. The pickup has been developed from Mahindra’s Ingenio platform (U-platform) – the very same platform that formed the basis of the Xylo MPV. The Genio variants will compete with the Tata 207 Di (single and double-cab) variants.

The pick-up truck will be powered by the same 2.5-litre m2DI CRDe motor from the Genio single-cab, the Xylo D2and the recently launched Scorpio Ex. Underneath, the double-cab pickup will come with independent front suspension and hydraulic double-acting telescopic shock absorbers to handle extra payload. It will also get features like emergency retractable front seatbelts, radial tubeless tyres, load sensing proportioning valve (LSPV) brakes that adjust braking pressure depending on the payload, cross-member reinforced doors, power steering, a floor console with a mobile charging point, and a larger glove box. M&M is also working on a CNG variant of the pickup which will be launched alongside the double-cab pickup.

Mahindra has also announced the launch of 8 new models in this financial year. The company is also planning to sell in the export markets where it’s already selling the Scorpio and the Bolero pickups.
