Production of 3 Chevrolet models Tavera, Sail and Enjoy to end by April-2017

With sales diminishing over the years, General Motors is rethinking its strategy for the Indian market. In the first phase, the American car-maker plans to discontinue 3 Chevrolet models which are the Tavera, Enjoy and the Sail twins from April-2017.

A Isuzu Panther underneath, the Tavera was launched in India in 2004.

Although the Tavera was the best-selling car from the automaker but in recent times its sales number has declined significantly. Even the Enjoy MPV launched in 2013 is discontinued attributed to poor sales; demand for compact MPVs in the market has lowered due to the rising popularity of competitively-priced compact SUVs in the market.

GM India will also discontinue models such as Sail hatchback and Sail Sedan as well. For now, the company plans to launch the new Beat facelift, a crossover and the Essentia compact sedan. Apart from this, General Motors also plan to focus on the facelifted Trailblazer and new-generation Cruze sedan.

The Sail Sedan is reportedly going to be replaced by the Chevrolet Beat Essentia.

General Motors recently announced that the company will stop production at its Halol manufacturing plant in Gujarat from 28th April, 2017. Instead the automaker will merge its manufacturing at the Talegaon facility. The company is also in talks for partnership with Chinese automaker and its partner SAIC over sharing assets of Halol plant.

Considering the growing demand for premium cars in India, General Motors is hopeful about getting success with the refreshed lineup.
