Vespa Elegante launched in India – Rs. 78,999

The Piaggio Vespa might not be among the most successful scooters on-sale in India right now, but it definitely is the best looking of them all. The Vespa was relaunched in India after a few years gap and all the buyers who were in the market looking for a premium scooter took a liking to the Vespa instantly. At first, Piaggio launched only the basic Vespa VX125, but as time passed by, they felt the need to launch more premium and special edition scooters in order to make owning this gorgeous scooter a more glamourous experience.

Today, the company launched a premium limited edition of Vespa, called the Vespa Elegante which is inspired from the Vespa Primavera, but houses the same basic Vespa VX platform. The Vespa Elegante is styled in a different manner compared to the basic VX125, and if you thought that the Vespa VX125 was retro, you should really take a look at this.

The Vespa Elegante is going retro like never before, with the new chrome front grille, the round headlamp, all-round chrome guard kit and front bumper guard and Elegante badge. Even the seat gets a split design to get the full retro feel. The Vespa Elegante will be offered in two new metallic colours – Marrone Crete Senesi  (Clay Brown) and Bianco Perla (Pearl White), to take the retro look forward. The scooter also comes with colour co-ordinated limited edition helmets.

The Vespa Elegante will be powered by the same single cylinder, 3-valve, 125cc engine currently powering all the other Vespa models in India. Producing 10 PS of max power and 10.06 NM of max torque, and being mated to a Variomatic transmission, it is not the most powerful scooter engine out there, but it gets its job of pulling the Vespa around town done with no effort at all.

The Vespa Elegante only looks retro but has some modern features, those stylish 5-spoke alloy wheels come shod with tubeless tires and Braking is handled by a hydraulic disc brake up front and an internal expanding shoe type drum brake at the rear.

The biggest difference between the Vespa Elegante and the Vespa VX125 though, will be the price. The most expensive scooter sold in India till date is the Vespa S, which was positioned higher than the Vespa VX125, but now the Vespa Elegante is priced higher than the Vespa S for the premium position, with a price of Rs. 78,999 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
