SPYSHOTS: Next-gen Hyundai Verna seen testing in India, launch in August

The next-gen Hyundai Verna is reported to launch in August this-year, was recently spotted testing in India. The car spotted is heavily camouflaged, however, the visible spots suggest it is similar to the new Hyundai Accent and Solaris unveiled in Toronto and Russia, respectively.

The test-mules were seen with the Honda city, which could be a bench-marking vehicle. The new-gen Verna will be based on the Hyundai’s iconic fluidic sculpture 2.0 design language, which was well received on other models here at the past. The next-gen model is expected to grow in size as compared to the current one which means a more spacious cabin.

The exterior changes may include a bold looking and wider grill, swept-back headlights with LED daytime running lights, new alloy wheels, new front lip spoiler, sportier bumper design with chrome elements, moulded rear spoiler and rear LED horizontal taillamps along with some fluidic lines, which may be cleaner than the one on-sale here.

Hyundai is expected to give the next-gen Verna the same set of engines powering the existing car, the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines coupled to a manual gearbox. However, the 4-speed automatic offered now in both 1.6 petrol and diesel variants are likely to be replaced with the Creta’s 6-speed unit.

When launched, the 2017 Verna will head-on compete with the Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Rapid and VW Vento. The company will hope that the new car will once again rocket the sales like its first-gen model launched in 2006 and emerge as a potential threat to rivals.
