Next-Gen Skoda Fabia Spotted while testing in Europe; launch in October

The next-gen Skoda Fabia has been spotted once again while undergoing tests near the Skoda base of operations in the Czech Republic, but this time with lesser camouflage. It was about time, we saw spy-shots of the car on the internet, because it is all set to be revealed at the Paris motor show in October, and these few months before the official reveal is the period in which the maximum spy-shots are taken.

The new Fabia appears to have shed it’s round and curvy design language in exchange for a more sharper one, and overall, on the outside it tends to look like the previous-gen Audi A3 hatchback, but in reality, it has only gone with Skoda’s new design language which can be seen on the new Skoda Octavia and the new Skoda Superb. It will sport large, sleek and sharp headlamps, combined with the signature design Skoda Grille and the prominent Skoda badge right above the Grille.

From the side profile, it looks similar to the current-gen Fabia, only a bit sharper. Where it really shows that it is the new Fabia is at the C-pillar, which gets a brand new design. On the sides, Volkswagen seems to be using the components sharing strategy with Skoda in order to cut down on costs, as the mirrors and door handles of the Fabia look exactly like the ones used on the Volkswagen Polo. When viewed from the rear, the roof mounted spoiler steals your attention immediately. The spy-shots show that the Fabia will have a split tail-lamp, but when examined closely, one would know that it is all because of clever camouflaging. It actually is only a sleek single piece unit.

Instead of using the Volkswagen group’s MQB platform, Skoda has chosen to go with the same PQ platform being used in the current generation Fabia, VW polo and Audi A1. This gives Skoda the versatility, and flexibility, as the very same platform has already been modified for the Skoda rapid. The next-gen Fabia measures 4 metres in length, which is similar to the current gen Fabia, but wheelbase and width of the car has been increased, and this only means one thing : increased cabin space!

As for power-train options, Skoda will be using the engine sharing strategy just like all companies in the Volkswagen group do. The base engine will be the 1-liter petrol engine taken from the Skoda CitiGo and will in all probability have an output of around 75 PS. Skoda will also be plonking in the well known 1.2 liter TSI unit, which is already being used in the Volkswagen polo, and a 1.6 liter turbo-diesel will also be available.

The car will be launched in all trims as before, except for the vRS Variant as Skoda found the Fabia vRS was not a profitable venture and will not sell well.
