MG Motors set to invest heavily in India – plans to launch first product by 2019

SAIC owned MG Motors are set to enter the Indian market and are planning to launch some exciting cars in the future. With its first offering scheduled for 2019, the company will operate at General Motors Halol plant once GM exits India. The company will invest over Rs.2,000 crore for its India plans.

These may include costs for refurbishing and to increase the capacity to 80,000 units. Coming back to its first products, reports emerged that the car will be a Hyundai Creta rivalling MPV. This may be followed by a small MPV, a couple of hatchbacks and a sedan which will rival the Honda City.

MG Motors is expected to attend the 2018 Auto Expo in which these cars may be showcased. As of now, the company is in its final phase to acquire General Motors production facility at Halol, Gujarat. It seems likely that MG Motors may upgrade the plant to make it larger.

Such a situation will help to cater to its customer demands and ramp up productions. SAIC owned MG motors will look to bring in more interesting tech by which it could entice buyers. It is safe to say that MG motors lineup for India looks promising.
