Maruti Manesar plant will be back to production from 21st August

Maruti Manesar plant will be back to production from 21st August

Almost a month after the deadly violence at Maruti’s Manesar Plant will resume the productions back to normal from 21st of this month, which is on Tuesday. The plant was closed down on July 18 after violence broke down and one person was killed and hundred others were injured in the incident. As per the official announcement made by the car maker, the plant will be armed with policemen and other security staff and these men will make sure that nothing adverse happens at the car plant.

Meanwhile, Maruti has sacked 500 permanent workers following initial probe on the violence. And initially, the plant will be run at a low capacity and will produce 150 Maruti cars a day that too under heavy security and police protection. Notably, the plant produces Maruti Swift hatchback and Maruti Swift Dzire sedan which are the best selling Maruti cars, along with SX4 sedan and A-Star hatchback. The backlog for the Swift and Dzire has already climbed up to 120,000 units.

Labour unrest is not a new phenomenon in Manesar plant which mainly produces Swift. The factory had witnessed three such instances last year causing a total production loss of of around Rs. 2,500 crore for 83,000 units. This year nearly 2500 employees were detained and situations got worse when a senior employee was burnt while a lot many were injured seriously. The closing of the production has caused a lot of trouble and might cause an expected delay in the much awaited Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 launch, Ritz facelift etc…
