Hyosung developing a 250cc single cylinder bike for India

Hyosung GT250R - 001

Hyosung-DSK just announced two high end sportsbikes for the Indian superbike market and the offerings come at a price point the competition will have a hard time catching up with. But then again, a bike worth Rs.5 lakhs as an ex-showroom price is pretty much out of the reach of the average Indian sports bike enthusiast who somehow manages to lay his hands on the CBR 250R by strectching the budget by some 40,000 over the Yamaha R15.

And Hyosung seems to have realised this common Indian man’s school of thought. They brought a 250 cc multi cylinder offering a while ago in the form of GT 250R but the bike failed miserably because it was priced right in the territory of the Kawasaki Ninja 250R and if somebody was going to spend 3 lakhs, they were always going to buy a meaner and greener( just metamorphically ) machine.

Hyosung is believed to be developing a single cylinder 250cc motorcycle for countries like India who have an affinity for sportsbikes but the buyers are on a budget. The Hyosung quarter litre offering would be pitted right against the Honda CBR 250R and the bike is currently being developed at Hyosung’s South Korean Research and Development facility according to some reports. Like we always say, these are just speculations as of now and we want you to take these with a pinch of salt.

The bike will be brought in India in the form of CKDs with more localisation to follow soon after the bike gains popularity in the country. The bike will come sometime in late 2013 and will face stiff competition from the Yamaha’s 250cc offering which will be launched in 2014. Companies all over the world are realising the importance of the Indian markets and are leaving no stone unturned to get a strong footing in the country. And the winner amidst all this is- The Average Indian biking enthusiast.
