Honda India to phase-out Civic soon

Honda Civic

In a shocking disclosure, Honda India has finally decided to phase out the Civic in India due to its miserable performance especially in last one year. As per AutoCarIndia reports the Japanese car maker has stopped importing the CKD kits and will stop production after remain units are built. The stocks with the dealers are expected to exhaust by Diwali – after which the Civic will be withdrawn from the Indian market.

For the past three months April, May and June the Civic sales did not even reach triple digits. Only last-month in July, Honda India managed to sell 138 units of Civic with attractive offer which can translate into a healthy total savings of up to Rs 85,000. With a free first-year insurance which saves you upto Rs 35,000 and in-car entertainment system with navigation was also been included with the car at no cost.

The main reason to phase-out the Civic in Indian car market is the lack of diesel engines. However, Honda does have an efficient 1.6-diesel engine for the European market, but the engine is not compatible in India, mainly due to poor quality of diesel. The company has launched the 2012 Civic in the global market very recently, but also confirmed that it won’t be brought here for the same reason.

The outgoing Civic was launched in 2006 and has seen its fair share of success in the Indian market. When it was launched, the Civic looked a generation ahead of its competition with its futuristic styling, inside and out. However, over the years the Civic lost its edge thanks to a soaring Yen that kept pushing its price up (by around Rs 2 lakh eventually) and the military attack of diesel competition.

What we say? We have always loved this D-segment sedan from Honda and hope the company has plans to bring back the model in not so distant future.
