Datsun Go likely to get 65 hp 1.0-litre petrol engine from Renault Kwid

According to AutoCarIndia, Datsun is mulling together with its alliance Renault India to adopt a small displacement engine of 1.0-litre 3 cyl petrol engine, which is rumoured to produce around 65 hp in the Renault Kwid.

As of now, Dastun Go is powered by a 1.2-litre 3 cyl engine developing 68 hp and 104 Nm of torque. This motor gives the car plenty of power and torque, more than enough to pull its light 788kg kerb weight. As a result, customers are impressed and enjoy the ride. But the problem is, this engine is expensive to equip, with parts imported from other countries.

Thus, the company is planning to introduce its alliance’s 1.0-litre engine which will debut in the Renault Kwid later this-year. This unit will not only be lighter and more compact, but it is also heavily localized in the Indian market that’s sure to make Datsun Go more cost competitive. The Go weighing 788 kg, the new 1.0-litre 3 cyl petrol engine may not feel underpowered as well.
