Bajaj and Triumph hold talks for India plans, no 250cc will be launched

Bajaj and have recently acquired stake in premium motor cycle firm Triumph, and as per reports, both companies are jointly developing bikes that will be sold under the latter’s brand name. Reports also suggest that work has already commenced and the bike will be sold here and exported to developing markets. As per our expectations, it is most likely to be a bike ranging from 400cc–800cc.

Surprisingly, both companies have not yet planned on launching 250cc bikes, which could bring volumes for Triumph. In fact, Triumph was planning on launching a quarter-litre bike here a couple of years ago, which somehow were shelved. This could be the Triumph brand name, taking-off share from Bajaj and KTM in the 250cc segment.

Meanwhile, Triumph bikes have a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit in Manesar  where they test their motorcycles. This partnership will also enable all 4 brands – Bajaj, KTM, Triumph and Husqvarna to work together. Given Bajaj’s low-cost techniques, expect these Triumph badged bikes to come at an affordable price.

Launch for these bikes could take place in couple of years time, mostly sooner than later. It may be also be interesting to see whether the bike will be positioned as a Cruiser or as a Cafe Racer, both of which are seen in Triumph bikes here. Hopefully the end product may be a cool bike which may attract many when seen on our roads.
