SPIED: 2018 Hyundai Sonata facelift almost nude in Dubai

It has been two years since the current seventh generation Hyundai Sonata surfaced, although unveiled at 2014 Auto Expo was not launched here in India. Now the 2018 Sonata facelift is due soon!

The 2018 Hyundai Sonata has been spotted out in the streets of Dubai, barely disguised by our spy photographers. The prototype seen here certainly appears to be as close to production-ready as can be (at least on the outside). This facelift is expected to be a relatively major one, as the current Sonata’s relatively conservative design has failed to excite the midsize sedan buyers worldwide.

The test mule seen in the spy pictures indicates the some design cues are taken from the Grandeur (Azera), also some from the front design of the new Elantra, with a flatter and sharper full-height hexagon grille. Also note the tweaked headlamps, restyled front bumper, black top and new alloy wheel designs. Typical for a mid-life refresh, the profile would remain largely unchanged.

The 2018 Sonata could be offered with the same engine options, but the highlight will be the addition of an 8-speed automatic gearbox to improve performance and efficiency. Despite the availability of a diesel engined variant internationally, Hyundai Motor has no plans to introduce the Sonata here in India.
