2014 Auto Expo – Jaguar Land Rover thriving under Indian ownership

Ever since Jaguar Land Rover entered India, they have been taking our market quite seriously; they have been trying to stand up to the competition by launching model after model and update after update. As of now, Jaguar Land Rover has 19 dealers across 17 cities which show’s that they’re trying hard to reach out to the masses; they also plan to increase that number to 24 by the end of the year. At the Auto Expo too, Jaguar Land Rover had a wide range of models on display and they launched two new models for the Indian market.

Jaguar Land Rover launched the LWB Range Rover at the Auto Expo which is being acclaimed as the most luxurious SUV in the world. The LWB Range Rover is powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 with an output of 510 PS and nearly 625 NM torque, but that is not what the LWB version is all about. The LWB version was designed specifically keeping luxury in mind. The LWB range rover gets a whopping 186mm increase in wheelbase, when compared to the normal Range Rover.

This increase in wheelbase was needed to accommodate the new heated, powered executive seats at the rear with a new, higher recline angle of 17 degrees, compared to the 8 degrees in the normal Range Rover. The rear passengers also get two 10 inch screens for infotainment purposes as well as business class style fold down tables.  As expected, along with the increase in luxury comes the increase in price. The LWB Range Rover was launched at nearly Rs. 3.5 crores (ex-showroom, Delhi)

The next launch at the Auto Expo was the new Range Rover Evoque. Well, it’s not all new actually, it is the same old Evoque, which has been tuned for better performance and has now been mated to an all new 9-speed ZF automatic gearbox, and also has a few aesthetic changes.

At the event, Jaguar Land Rover also revealed the Jaguar F-type coupe which will be available in three trims, the V6, V6 S and F-type R which will be available with the new supercharged V8, producing 543 BHP. While the V6 and V6 S models produce 335 BHP and 375 BHP respectively. All the engine options are mated to the same 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

Jaguar Land Rover had all their current production models too on display at the Auto expo, but the most attractive car at the JLR stall and one of the most attractive at the entire Auto Expo was the Jaguar C-X17. The C-X17 is Jaguars first attempt at making an SUV and from the way it looks, we surely can say that Jaguar might become one of the most prominent SUV manufacturers in the world if they produce it. The C-X17 too carries the Global design language of Jaguar and looks really good at it.

Jaguar Land Rover is taking the Indian market very seriously, and if it continues this way, there is no stopping JLR from taking over their German rivals.
