Yamaha-Mahindra tie up confusion cleared

We had reported earlier that Yamaha and Mahindra 2-wheelers were looking to get into a business partnership. Yamaha Motor India has recently denied reports of its rumoured business tie-up with Mahindra 2 Wheelers, the 2 wheeler division of Mahindra Automotive India.

Yamaha Motors announced that it is very committed to the Indian market and has plans to make substantial investments in both capacity expansion and also product development. The company has seen a growth in sales volumes this year and aims to sell 530,000 (both domestic and exports) in this financial year. This turns to an increase of over 40% over the sales of last year which was about 380,000. Also, the company has recorded a growth of about 68% in the 150cc segment which includes the R15, the SZ series and the FZ series products.

“We are not looking for business partnership with any company. Our Mid-term plan is on track and we will be making sizeable investments for new product development, sales & service network strengthening and capacity expansion over the next few years.” India Yamaha Motor CEO & MD, Mr. Hiroyuki Suzuki said.

So, there you go, it is now official that Yamaha is having nothing to do with Mahindra Two Wheelers as of now. Yamaha however is expected to launch its scooter range at the upcoming 2012 Indian Auto Expo. Mahindra Two Wheelers for its part might come up with the facelifted Duro at the 2012 Auto Expo even as it relaunches the Stallio, which was pulled off the market with gearbox gremlins. The fate of the much publicized 300cc Mahindra Mojo premium sportsbike remains unknown at the moment.
