Yamaha Motor India today launched the Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR automatic scooter in India. The scooter is on-sale in two variants – Drum brake and Disc brake.
After failing with the Ray-Z scooter, this is Yamaha India’s second attempt to grab the male fans, who prefer a scooter over a bike. The Ray-ZR too is essentially a sportier derivative of the Ray-Z with a more expressive design. It comes equipped with a telescopic fork front suspension, under seat storage of 21 litres, an analogue instrument cluster and tubeless tyres.
Under the skin, the Ray-ZR gets a familiar 113cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke, 2-valve engine which also powers the Alpha and Ray-Z. Developing 7.1 BHP and 8.1 Nm of torque through a continuously variable transmission (CVT), this engine comes with Yamaha’s proprietary BlueCore technology.Yamaha claims that it can return a fuel efficiency of 66 kpl.
Measuring 1,820 mm in length, 700 mm in width, 1,115 mm in height and has a wheelbase measuring 1,270 mm, further a seat height of 775 mm and a wet weight of 103 kg. The drum brake variant will come in two body colours. While the disc brake variant will get two different colours. The Ray-ZR will compete with the likes of Honda Dio, Activa, Maestro Edge and TVS Jupiter.
Prices of Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR scooter (ex-showroom, Delhi):
- Cygnus Ray-ZR (Drum brake) – Rs. 52,000/-
- Cygnus Ray-ZR (Disc brake) – Rs. 54,500/-
