Volvo 7700 diesel-electric hybrid bus to run on Bangalore roads soon

The time when diesel and CNG buses used to do duty on roads is gone and the next generation of eco-friendly buses are here to take the charge. Volvo, one of the leading premium bus manufacturer, is soon going to bring its new hybrid bus to India’s IT capital, Bangalore.

Volvo 7700 hybrid, unveiled at the 2012 Auto Expo earlier this month, is soon going to hit Bangalore roads and this has been confirmed by Karnataka Transport Minister R.Ashoka. Initially the bus will run on a trial basis for a period of two months after which it could be deployed permanently. It can accommodate 105 persons at once and incurs significantly less running costs.

As per a report, the bus cuts diesel fuel costs by as much as 30 % and being a hybrid you would not have to worry about emissions either. The bus runs on a combination of powertrains, a CRDi diesel motor and an electric motor which could be employed independently or jointly.

The regenerative braking system charges the battery every time brakes are applied while another technology stops the engine when the bus is stationary and restarts it once the vehicle reaches 15-20 kmph eventually saving more fuel.

If you doubt the product’s performance, let me tell you the bus is successfully running in 20 cities of the world and has proved itself by saving up to 37 % fuel consumption and over 50 % emissions under actual operation.

It is an extremely good joint initiative of the Karnataka government and Volvo and I wish this happens in other metropolitans as well.

Sweden is a nice country and Swedish companies are in general very productive and environmentally conscious.

Bajaj Auto has silently launched much awaited 150cc Boxer variant in India. The new Boxer variant from Bajaj is christened as Boxer BM150 and is available for a price of Rs 42,000 (ex-showroom Pune). The new Bajaj Boxer BM150 is now available across all authorized Bajaj Auto dealerships in the country. This motorcycle costs approximately Rs 7,000 less than the Bajaj Discover motorcycle. The looks of the Boxer BM150 is pretty simple and basic. Nothing on the bike will excite a young enthusiast but would probably be appealing to the rural customer looking for a simple and rugged bike. The engine block seems very much similar to the ones found on the Discover 150 model but probably doesn't get the DTS-i tech. as the second spark plug is not visible in the photos. A 150 cc engine alone doesn't just mean that it has to be at par with a Yamaha R15 in terms of speed/KMPH. But a 150 cc engine also gives the flexibility of bumping up the "torque" (pulling capability) relatively easily. Apart from fuel efficiency/KMPL rural folks (the target customer of this bike) also need "Torque" in a lot in the applications, like pulling "doodh/milk" cans, pulling 3-4 adults (not legal but very common everywhere) etc. There has been mention of the Boxer150 by Mr. Rajiv Bajaj as a tractor/tank on 2wheels; none of which are made for speed/KMPH but more for "Torque". As seen in the pictures, Boxer BM150 150cc is strictly utilitarian with minimal attention to styling. But functional elements are plenty like the long travel SNS suspension (Spring in Spring). For the sake of cost saving, there are plenty of body parts lifted from Platina. Spoke wheels and round headlamps are back. Basic orange blinkers, closed chain and drum brakes are other examples of cost savings. For better durability and usability, steel grab rails are back. Beneath the large visor, simple instrument panel which houses the speedometer and fuel gauge like in Discover. With the BoxerBM150 150cc, Bajaj will kickstart its new rebranding strategy selling bikes with their subbrands (Pulsar, Discover and boxer) rather than Bajaj. Nowhere in the boxer BM150, is Bajaj monicker there. Remember, Bajaj sells the boxer already in African markets. While the Pulsar will be Bajaj's sports bike, Discover the commuter bike and the Boxer the rural bike.   Expected 5 Shades available in New Bajaj Boxer BM150 - Grey Silver Black Red Blue   Expected Variants of New Bajaj Boxer BM150 - New Bajaj Boxer BM150 kick start New Bajaj Boxer BM150 self start Also see - Bajaj to re-launch Boxer 150cc by next month More pictures of New Bajaj Boxer BM150 -                 Image credit - IndianCarsBikes
