TVS has recently launched a face-lifted version of its flagship model Apache, the Apache RTR 160 Hyper Edge. The ‘Hyper Edge’ is purely a cosmetic upgrade of the current model.
The changes include a new ‘Hyper Edge’ badge over the air scoops and new graphics over the front fender and fuel tank. TVS originally introduced a removable rear fender in the Apache 180 and this feature can now be found in the Hyper Edge too. According to some sources, TVS, thankfully, has not hiked the price for this face-lifted upgrade, which remains at the Rs. 70,000 range. TVS also offers the Apache RTR FI (Fuel Injection) 160 and Apache RTR 180.
The Apache RTR 160 Hyper Edge is powered by a 159.7 cc, 4 stroke, single cylinder engine that produces 15.2 bhp @ 8500 rpm of peak power and 13.1 Nm @ 6000 rpm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 5 speed gear box.
The Hyper Edge is loaded with attractive features such as LED taillLamps, Roto Petal Disc (better braking), digital speedo console, poly shocks and clip-on handle bars. With respect to style, Apache RTR 160 Hyper Edge has split grab rails, a sporty silencer coated with a heat shield, rear set foot pegs for a sporty riding position, racing stripes over the fuel tank, forged brake lever, aerodynamic air scoops, engine fairing and black alloys.
The premium 150 cc motorcycle segment is heating up due to the new launches such as Hero Dazzler and Hero Honda’s 2010 Hunk and Yamaha’s FZ, FZ-S and Fazer Special Editions. Hence TVS might have launched the Apache RTR 160 Hyper Edge as an answer to these major players in this ultra-competitive segment. But, will the mere cosmetic changes help the Apache RTR 160 Hyper Edge have an edge over the other bikes? We have our doubts! But a better look at no extra cost never hurt anybody!
