After successfully launching their first made for India sedan, Toyota Motors are now facing customers who want to cancel their Etios bookings.

Etios sedan was launched in India on the 1st December 2010, Toyota Motors started accepted advance bookings from the same day. By paying a fully refundable Rs 50,000, as token towards their booking of Etios sedan, more than 22,000 people in India have booked the car till now.

Due to this overwhelming response, Toyota Motors had to increase the wait period for some customer from 5 months to 8 months. As these customers were promised a delivery time of 4-6 months, they do not want to wait for 8 months and have cancelled their bookings.

Only 1,651 units of Etios were delivered by Toyota in January. Mr Sandeep Singh, Deputy MD, Toyota India, said, “There will be some cancellations. However, it is not a concern for us. We are working on building our capacity. Waiting periods should come down after February this year when our new plant (located in Bidadi, near Bangalore) will be fully operational.”
