Hyundai EonThis month on our Top 10 things you need to know about the car is ‘Hyundai Eon’ the latest addition to the budget hatchback line-up. Let’s get started.

Top 10 things you need to know about the Hyundai Eon –

1.  Hyundai’s entry-level car looks nothing like a low-cost car, based on the all-new platform the Eon has got the ultimate Fluidic appearance that can also be seen in other Hyundai cars.

2.  Hyundai Eon has received the prestigious Environmental Certificate in accordance with the ISO 14040 standard based on a life cycle assessment from TUV NORD, Germany.

3.  On the inside, the Eon looks ridiculously modern and grown-up. The latest fluidic design theme has also been continued inside and the central console has been designed to resemble a ‘Ganesh’ statue. The interiors also feature dual-shade with good plastic quality and excellent fit and finish. The top variant of Eon (Sportz) features AC, power steering, power windows, remote central locking and factory fitted music system with AUX-in, USB port and four speakers fitted in the doors.

4.  Power for the Hyundai Eon will come from 814cc 3-cylinder petrol engine which generates maximum power of 55 bhp at 5500 rpm with maximum torque of 76.5 nm at 4000 rpm and is very fuel efficient car with ARAI certified mileage of 21.1 kmpl, which is again best-in-its-class.

5.  First in its class! Eon comes with ‘Alternator Management System’ (AMS) developed by Hyundai especially for Indian customers to deliver more Eco-efficient driving. It controls the power supply to the battery to relieve the engine workload and reduces fuel consumption & emissions while decelerating and idling. Additionally the manual shift indicator in Eon prompts the driver whenever a gear shift is required. Thus together the AMS and Gear shift indicator ensures better fuel economy and extended battery life and adds to customer’s benefit.

6.  How safe? Hyundai Eon is the safest small car in its class, the top model features driver-side airbag. Although before the launch it was expected that Sportz variant will also feature ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) but it seems that Hyundai wants to keep this safety feature for i10 and i20.

7.  The Eon is available in eight variants, including five of petrol and three with LPG option. The petrol variant available in D-Lite, D-Lite+, Era+, Magna+ and Sportz, while the three LPG variants of the Eon are D-Lite+, Era+ and Magna+.

8.  Available in six shades – Coral White, Mushroom, Printine Blue, Maharajah Red, Sleek Silver and Dark Grey Metallic.

9.  How much? Prices for the base petrol variant start at Rs 3.04 lakh and Rs 3.59 for the base LPG variant (both prices are on-road, Delhi) – that makes it costlier than the Maruti Alto 800 but feels a class higher.

10.  The Hyundai Eon is the latest addition to the budget hatchback class. But compared to the likes of the Maruti Alto 800/K10 or Tata Nano, the Eon is posh, spacious and wonderfully refined. Better yet, it costs less than the Chevrolet Spark and the Hyundai’s very own Santro.
