In November-2015, Tata Motors revealed the name of its upcoming small car, christened as ‘Zica’. According to the company, the name ‘Zica’ is an acronym for ‘Zippy Car’.
Earlier this-month, Tata Motors announced that their upcoming small car will no longer be called Zica, as it sounds similar to the Zika virus which has forced WHO (World Health Organization) to declare a global emergency. Thus as a CSR – Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Motors gave-up on the brand name Zica of their new car.
For deciding the new name for the Zica, Tata Motors launched a campaign named ‘Fantastico Name Hunt’ where the fans and existing customers were suggested to give the new name. This resulted in Tata Motors getting engagement from 48 million enthusiasts, 12 million video views and over 37,000 different name suggestions.
On 18th February, 2016 three names were shortlisted by Tata Motors – Tata Adore, Tata Civet, and Tata Tiago. Again, Tata Motors asked the public to vote for their favorite name. Today, the company announced that they have a clear winner and it is TIAGO. Yes. The new name of Tata Zica is Tata Tiago. As promised earlier, the Tiago will go on-sale by the end of March-2016.
