According to some fresh reports Overdrive, Tata Motors is rigorously working on three new products to be launched in the next nine months (by May 2013). Needless to say, the most exciting seems to be the Tata Nano diesel plonked with a 3-cylinder diesel engine, touted to be the smallest diesel engine in India.

The second offering from the company’s port-folio is the Tata Safari Strome which was displayed earlier this-year at 2012 Auto Expo held at New Delhi.  The Safari Strome looks pretty similar to the existing model though the different side claddings are give aways of the new car. Styling changes to the rear include a new tail gate with the spare wheel now mounted under the body. A thick horizontal strip above the repositioned number plate is a noteworthy detail here. Dual chrome tipped exhausts complete the rear redesign.

However, the third car in Tata’s port-folio remains mystery, but bridging the gap in between the Nano and Indica to take on the likes of Hyundai Eon and Maruti Alto. So, most probably it would be an 800cc car by Tata Motors. Therefore, we doubt this clueless product with no detail might be the Tata Dolphin which was the news since a long time from now.

Talking about the Tata Dolphin, it is predicted to be 800cc model from Tata available in both fuel option, petrol and diesel with a expected price of Rs. 2.25 lakh. With the launching of this car Tata motors is trying to fill the space in its product portfolio to compete with other small cars like Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon. Moreover, with the growing demand for small cars in India and owing to India’s middle class population, there is no doubt that Tata Motors will be looking to stamp its authority in the Indian market with this new car.

There is also a growing demand for small cars like that Tata Dolphin from rural and semi-urban areas of India where strong robust and durable brands are in vogue. Tata and Maruti are strong contenders of these rural and semi-urban markets. These markets account for nearly 50 percent of total sales in India and here is where Tata Motors want seriously to place a Maruti Alto rival, i.e. the Tata Dolphin.
