Tata Kite hatchback Rendered – launch by June 2015

As per the reports on IndianCarsBikes, the upcoming hatchback from Tata Motors codenamed ‘Kite’ is scheduled to launch by June-2015, much ahead of the year-end launch schedule which previous reports suggested. The Kite hatchback will replace the long-running Indica when it goes on-sale in Indian market.

Going by the large amount of spy shots accumulated till date, the folks at CarToq decided to show us what the Tata Kite hatchback could look like close to final production model. Commenting on the speculated-rendering, the car looks like a mixture of Datsun Go and next-gen Ford Figo, however, Tata’s Megapixel-inspired smiling grille is evident.

The design on the car is completely new and not seen on any Tata Cars before. If Tata Motors stresses on Kite’s build quality and adds some premium touch, which they most likely will not be doing, as the hatchback would slot into slightly higher segment to rival Honda Brio, Hyundai Grand i10 and such. It is based on the modified platform of Indica, so expect better driving and handling capability.

Tata Kite will also get a compact sedan sibling, and will not be surprised if Kite spawns a 7-seater MPV like the Datsun Go+. The interior adopts a fresh design and is richly equipped. The company is believed to offer first-in-the-segment dual-DIN infotainment system on the top-end Kite variant, but without a touch-screen. This is in line with Tata Motors ‘Horizonext’ strategy, with ‘ConnectNext’ as one of its pillars.

Petrol engine available for the Kite is similar to those available in the Zest and Bolt – 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine, but with the significant tweaks. This engine will produce close to 72 Bhp and 105 Nm of torque. And its diesel variant will get an all-new 1.05-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine, which is a derivative of the company’s 1.4-litre DiCOR diesel engine. Both these engines will be available with a manual and an AMT transmission, though it’s unclear if the AMT variants will be available at launch.

The Kite could be positioned between the Nano and the Bolt. As far as prices are concerned, expect ex-showroom prices to range in between Rs 3.8 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh.
