Suzuki which is one of the best selling passenger cars across the globe has now begun developing their own range of diesel engines for its future range of cars. Suzuki till date used to rely on Fiat for the supply of MultiJet diesel engines. This attempt by the Japanese manufacturer Suzuki would be the first ever attempt in the development of their own range of diesel engines.

Already diesel variants of the top selling cars such as Swift, Dzire and Ertiga are already equipped by MultiJet diesel engines developed by Fiat. However now Suzuki wants to be self sufficient as far there are demands for diesel engines. Suzuki’s first diesel engine would be an 800 cc, 2-cylinder unit which is expected to be introduced in 2015.

Further, Suzuki also has plans to join two 800 cc, 2-cylinder diesel engines in order to form a 1.6-litre 4 cylinder engine limiting engine capacity to 1500 cc in order to avail tax benefits. The production version of the XA-Alpha compact SUV, which was showcased at Auto Expo 2012, is likely to be equipped with the all new 1.5-litre engine developed by Suzuki. Maruti Suzuki is all-set to unveil 800cc diesel engine at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo at Noida in February-2014,
