Spied – Vespa LX125 at Baramati near Pune (Updated)

Piaggio is gearing to re-launch the Vespa brand in India with its LX125 scooter. The scooters will make their presence felt at the 2012 Auto Expo and will be launched in India shortly after that.

Our friends at Motoroids have caught hold of the test mules being tested at Baramati, about 100 km from Pune, where the production facility for these scooters is being set up. These test mules which are covered to hide their identity are indeed the LX125. Vespa is testing both the base and high end version which can be made out from the spokes of the vehicle. The three spoke one is the base model while the five spoke one is the top end model which features disc brakes.

Vespa LX125 comes powered by a 125cc four stroke SOHC engine mated to a constant variomatic transmission (CVT). The 125 cc four stroke engine is good enough for 10.7 Bhp of peak power and 9.6 Nm of peak torque. Now, while these figures won’t make for earth shattering performance, they’ll ensure that the Vespa LX125 is a nippy ride around town and one that can show a clean pair of heels to most of the traffic at the stop lights.

Vepsa will be priced a bit on the higher side in the segment and will directly rival with the successful leaders in this segment like Honda Activa, Suzuki Access, TVS Wego and it won’t be that easy for Vespa to catch up. Vepsa will initially launch the LX 125 followed by LX 150 automatic scooters.

(Updated on 15/10/2011 – Thanks to our friends at Motoroids once again, who have managed to take a closeup front-on image of the upcoming Vespa LX125 scooter. )
