Now we have the big news coming in for today, earlier though we reported Maruti Suzuki plans to launch a replacement of Maruti 800 and Maruti Alto, we doubted if the Alto will be on-sale alongside even after the launch of the Maruti 800′s replacement. But now it no longer remains the mystery, the rear badge on the car confirms the new model is called the Alto 800 which reveals it’s a replacement for present Alto 800 too.
These are the first pictures of an Alto 800 caught without a single piece of camouflage, thanks to CarDekho for clicking the image from every angle that reveals the car completely. From the images, the car looks similar to the A-star with Mickey Mouse like rear. But the headlamps and the front bumper seem to be inspired from the Ford Figo. The design has been toned down to match production specs and costs.
On the inside, the interior seems completely different if not classy like EON with new dashboard and is expected to be more spacious than its successor. From the images, Head rests in the front seats is clearly visible.
Under the hood, a reworked F8D engine displacing 796cc, in a three cylinder layout, is expected to be retained. This engine could see tweaks to improve performance as well as fuel economy, given the fact that the competition now offers both these crucial factors with new generation, small capacity petrol engines.
We expect Alto 800 will be available in three variant – Std (Standard), LX and LXi when it goes on sale later this-year. Now the top-end LXi variant has been spotted, with the body coloured bumper. If priced well, it can help Maruti buyers from switching to other brands like Hyundai Eon which is already emerging as a significant player of entry-level small car segment.
Well what does Maruti have on its mind? Will it shock everyone with a Diwali release?
