SPYSHOTS: 2017 Mini Countryman spotted in Indian soil

This camouflaged 2017 Countryman mule is based on the parent company BMW’s UKL 1 platform. This platform also underpins the new BMW X1 and the Mini Clubman. Compared to current Countryman, the new model will be larger and more spacious on the inside, even the wheelbase has been stretched nearly by 100 mm.

The cabin is likely to draw styling from the current Mini range but we can expect plusher materials and a heads-up display. The 2017 Countryman will be available globally with range of 3 cyl and 4 cyl engines paired to 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. Only the top-of-the-line petrol and diesel engine mated to an automatic gearbox are expected to be offered in India.

The 2017 Countryman will also share its electronically controlled AWD system with the BMW X1, although some global markets will also get a cheaper FWD-only variant.
