Spied – Mazda CX-5 SUV caught testing in New Delhi

Mazda has been eyeing India since a while now and here’s proof – a fresh set of spy pictures of the CX-5 crossover. Caught testing in New Delhi Roads, all thanks to the Team-BHP member, who has manages to snap the vehicle on test, the CX-5 is a five-seat crossover SUV. The spotted vehicle doesn’t have any badges neither at the front and rear nor on the wheel covers but because of the logo imprints we are able to make out that the car is none other than Mazda CX-5.

CX-5 is the first Mazda vehicle featuring company’s KODO design language, inspired by the stance of a crouching cheetah. Mazda’s KODO (meaning Soul of Motion) design language was first unveiled in 2010 on the Mazda Shinari, a 4-door sports coupe concept, and then the Mazda Minagi, the compact crossover SUV concept on which the Mazda CX-5 is based.

Coming back to Mazda CX-5, it comes equipped with Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology that features a rigid, lightweight platform, combined with a new series of efficient engines and transmissions, resulting in reduced emissions and fuel consumption. The Mazda CX-5 is currently sold in markets include Europe, US and obviously home country Japan.

Internationally, the CX-5 is powered by a 2.0-litre 155bhp petrol motor and a 147bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Options also include in terms of front engine two-wheel and 4-wheel drive layouts. Whatever the combination, all CX-5 models feature i-stop, Mazda’s unique fuel-saving idle-stop system providing the world’s fastest restarts.

Recently AutoCarIndia had also published an article where it is clear that Mazda is keen on entering the Indian market but as of yet nothing is confirmed. If to speculate, Mazda could start its Indian journey with the CX-5 and the car could do well in our market provided it is priced right. But another question that is arising is about the ownership of the car. Whether it has been imported by Mazda itself or an existing manufacturer in India for testing purpose, it is yet to be known.

What we say? We all know and have seen Swaraj Mazda trucks that ply on our Indian roads. This is exactly the same company which currently operates only in the commercial market with a JV with Swaraj Group of India.
