The Xylo Mini is in news since a long time now and we know that Mahindra is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the car is properly tested before it’s launched. Now once again the MPV was caught testing, this time in 2 different locations around Mumbai. Mahindra has played quite smartly with the interiors making the best use of the available space in this sub-four meter MPV.  If one wishes to trade over the boot space, the MPV offers enough accommodation for seven passengers. This basically means that the two single seats at the rear end of the car are where the passengers will sit facing each other. Being a shortened version of the popular Mahindra Xylo, one might as well assume quite a bit of similarities in the two MPVs.

Coming to the Mahindra Xylo Mini price, it could be in the range of Rs 5- Rs 7 lakh to sit right below it’s parent, the fully-grown Mahindra Xylo MPV. The home grown auto manufacturer has no dearth of diesel engines, but, for the compact MPV the auto major is bound to use the diesel powertrain of 1.5 L or less capacity. Mahindra has its Verito sedan’s diesel engine just handy to fill the bill. The 1.5 L diesel powertrain is capable enough to produce the 65 Bhp and 160 Nm peak power and torque numbers, though we will have to wait and see if this engine will be tweaked for some better performance. As for the petrol motor, it has a new 1.2 L petrol engine to perform under the Xylo Mini hood.

Compact car with some good fuel efficiency and a well-placed economic price is what the Indian consumers would like to see. And the success of the Mahindra Xylo is not unknown. So, Mahindra has done some good planning here and opted to chop the bigger model short to get the pricing advantage rather than going for a brand new car altogether.  However, this is an entirely new segment for Mahindra to test the waters. So, the auto major might seek the customer response at the 2012 Auto Expo instead of going for a direct launch. One can though bet on the two SsangYong SUV’s from Mahindra, the Rexton and Korando E at the Indian Auto Expo.
