Ssangyong’s full-size SUV will enter Indian auto market by early-2013. The Rexton will be the second product from SsangYong Motors in India after the launch of Ssangyong Korando in late-2012, but as of now it is still unclear that will Mahindra launch the Ssangyong Rexton II or the new Rexton W SUV which was showcased at the 2012 Busan Auto Show in May.
However, speaking to EconomicTimes, Pawan Goenka, President of Mahindra’s auto division, said that the Rexton II, which is the second generation model will be launched in India, while Mahindra is testing the facelifted Rexton W, the third generation model in India is bit confusing. Now with the latest sighting of the camouflaged model, one would hope Mahindra has decided to ditch the pre-facelift model for the Rexton W in India.
Thanks to our good friend at OnCars.in for the firstever snaps of the 2013 Ssangyon Rexton W test-mule in India. It is the facelift version of the Rexton II with major changes on the exterior along with the engine that has been tweaked a bit to deliver high fuel efficiency. And according to the same, the Rexton W caught on test was the RX270 XDi, which runs a Mercedes Benz derived 2.7-litre diesel engine that puts out over 160 PS of power mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. This might also come in a five-speed manual transmission.
The 2013 Ssangyong Rexton W SUV comes with better interiors and a host of safety features and creature comforts like ABS, Airbags, Electronic Stability Program, Active Rollover Protection, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, a smart key system, cruise control and rain sensor wipers to name a few. With the launch of the Rexton impending in the next few months in India, one can only hope that Mahindra brings the updated W model to the country.
